Hi Lark,

Thanks for querying BIRDIE TAKES FLIGHT! Your writing is absolutely gorgeous, and I enjoyed the voice, but the story doesn’t feel black to me, which was disappointing, seeing that your main character is described as black. We got a lot about the character’s trans and queer identities, but I didn’t really get a sense for the character’s blackness. Maybe focus on making the book feel more culturally rich.

Besides, 50,000 words is too short for a YA novel.
